Huddersfield has installed a MEIKO M-iQ flight dishwasher capable of washing around 2,400 plates an hour, replacing a similar machine from another manufacturer after just eight years.

“We are looking to improve our environmental performance,” says Head of Catering for Calderdale and Huddersfield Foundation Trust, Andrew Donegan. “The tender and evaluation process tested the credentials of several suppliers, including their Technical Services support and resulted in our choosing MEIKO. “It also helped that we were able to watch videos of the MEIKO M-iQ dishwashing concept on YouTube and understand how the new system works.

“Our staff are very happy with the new machine, particularly by that it features hinged rather than traditional lift-up spring doors, which make cleaning and routine maintenance much easier. “From a technical point of view, I also liked the improved protection provided to the pump system, which prevents items such as cutlery being trapped by the impellor and causing damage.

“And that fact that the machine won’t operate until the curtains are correctly put back in place ensures they don’t get mislaid and that the machine runs most efficiently, minimizing the amount of steam and hot air that enters the dishwash area.”

STEAM: Huddersfield has the benefit of a steam supply for their flight dishwasher. The M-iQ flight dishwasher's operating costs figures produced by MEIKO UK illustrated that steam delivers £3,785 in annual savings for the hospital compared to using a direct electric supply to heat the flight dishwasher.
